ЁЯУЪ ABOUT BHAVAN'S COLLEGE LIBRARY

Bhavan's College Library was established in 1946 with the vision of supporting the educational objectives of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and promoting excellence in teaching, learning, and research. Since its inception, the library has remained a vital academic resource for students, faculty, and researchers.

In 1948, the Mulraj Khatau Hall was inaugurated by Shri B. G. Kher, the then Chief Minister of Mumbai. As the institution expanded, the library building was further enlarged with financial assistance from the University Grants Commission (UGC). The extended library building was inaugurated on 22 July 1971 by Dr. P. B. Gajendragadkar, the then Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mumbai.

Today, the library serves as the academic heart of the college, supporting teaching, learning, innovation, and research. From an initial collection of nearly 10,000 books, it has grown into a comprehensive knowledge centre with an extensive collection of Books, Journals, Periodicals, Reference Sources, Bound Volumes, Audio-Visual Materials, Newspapers, Magazines, and Digital Resources.

Keeping pace with technological advancements, the library has embraced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to provide efficient, user-friendly, and value-added services. All major library operations including cataloguing, circulation, acquisition, OPAC, and member services are fully automated using the KOHA Integrated Library Management System (ILMS).

The library is committed to creating a modern learning environment by providing seamless access to quality information resources, e-resources, and digital services, thereby empowering students and faculty for academic excellence and lifelong learning.
